Within Erasmus+ Mobility Higher Education, students have the possibility to study or do a traineeship period in another European country. The aim of the program is to improve competence and the quality of education and to strengthen students' skills and competitiveness in the labour market. Through the program, exchanges take place via collaboration agreements between SKH and other higher education institutions, which means that you as a student do not pay any tuition fees. As an exchange student within Erasmus+, you will also receive a scholarship.

Going on an exchange as a SKH student

As a programme student at SKH, you have the opportunity to take part in Erasmus+ exchange studies or traineeship. If you would like to study at a higher education institution that does not participate in an exchange programme or with which SKH does not have an exchange agreement, you can choose to apply there on your own as a “freemover”. Read about studying abroad within your programme at SKH on the Student Portal.

Coming to SKH as an exchange student

SKH welcomes international students from our partner universities to apply for an exchange period with us. As an exchange student at SKH, you follow courses offered from our various Bachelor or Master programmes.

In Sweden, the academic calendar is divided into two semesters:

  • Autumn semester: Turn of the month August/September to mid-January
  • Spring semester: Mid-January to beginning of June

Exchange places are usually announced for a full semester corresponding to 30 higher education credits/30 ECTS (European Credit Transfer System).

Call for applications takes place twice per academic year:

  • 15 March–15 April (for applicants to places next semester)
  • 15 September–15 October (for applicants to places next semester)

Application

If you would like to apply for exchange studies at SKH, you first need to contact your international coordinator at your home university for information on how to be selected as an Erasmus+ exchange student. In the next step, you submit your application to SKH. The announced courses are published on our education page for exchange places, where you also find information on the application process, including the documents and work samples you need to submit with your application. You apply via the online application portal Mobility Online. Please note that SKH only accepts applications sent via the Mobility Online portal during the application period. We will not consider any applications from students sent by e-mail or regular mail.

Inquiries about the call and application process should be sent to: exchanges@uniarts.se.

Credits and grading system

Your study results at SKH are compatible with ECTS credits (the European Credit Transfer System). At SKH, the following grading scale is used:

VG - Väl godkänd (Pass with distinction)
G - Godkänd (Pass)
U - Underkänd (Fail)

For most courses, only Pass (G) and Fail (U) are used. As an incoming exchange student, you have the right to receive your grades according to the ECTS scale if requested. Upon completion of your studies, a Transcript of Records will be issued documenting credits and grades obtained.

Insurance

As an incoming exchange student, you are insured via Kammarkollegiet's insurance Student IN. The insurance does not cover everything so make sure to read through the information about the insurance on Kammarkollegiets website and provide additional personal insurance when needed.

EU/EEA/Swiss citizen also make sure to apply for a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) in your home country and bring it with you when moving to Sweden.

Participant with fewer opportunities

At SKH, everyone should be able to study on equal terms and have the same opportunities to conduct their studies regardless of functional variation. If you as an exchange student has functional variation that affects your ability to study, you are entitled to targeted study support. Read more under Targeted study support.

New in Sweden

If you are accepted for exchange studies at SKH, you will find practical information about moving to Sweden and Stockholm here. Other useful links are Study in Sweden and Study in Stockholm.

Housing

At SKH, we do not have our own student apartments for renting. There are different ways to find housing in Stockholm. You can read more about our tips on how to find one under Student accomondation.

Coming to SKH as a "freemover"

If you study at a higher education institution that does not participate in an exchange programme or with which SKH does not have an exchange agreement, you can choose to apply to SKH on your own as a “freemover”. As a freemover, you apply via the regular admission at SKH. Ask your home university if the courses you are applying for at SKH can be recognised within your education.
