How should the project description be structured?

The project description should describe the research question(s) that are explored through your artistic research project, the approaches/methods you plan to use, and how the  project contributes to existing knowledge and experience within the art field. The project description should relate to the subjects taught and researched at SKH.
For more information about what the application should contain, read here.

What does ”attested copy” mean?

Your application requires that the copies you attach are attested. An "attested copy" means that someone has clearly stated their name and telephone number, and signed and dated the document, thus attesting that the copy corresponds to the original. You can ask either someone you know or an official to certify your documents.

Do I need to contact supervisors in advance?

No, this is not necessary. SKH will appoint a main supervisor during the selection process. We will discuss possible second supervisors with PhD students once they are admitted.

What should be included in the project budget?

The preliminary project budget should outline how a maximum of SEK 400,000 will be used over the course of the project. It aims to demonstrate a financially feasible framework in terms of production, documentation and publication costs of the project.
For more information about what the budget should contain, read here.

How do I apply for validation of prior learning?

If you do not fulfil the formal eligibility requirements - that is, if you cannot document at least a Master of Fine Arts (60 ECTS) degree - you need to apply for validation of prior learning. How to do this is described here.

In previous admissions there were specialisations, why are they not available this year?

Compared to previous admission rounds, SKH announces doctoral positions in the third-cycle subject Performative and media-based practices, without the specialisations that PhD students have been admitted to in previous admission rounds.

Do I have to reside in the Stockholm area if I am accepted as a doctoral student?

Yes, your workplace will be in Stockholm. The main part of the programme is carried out at SKH, you will be expected to participate in other university activities and to contribute to the broader research environment.

Can I get help to move to Sweden?

When moving to Sweden, each employee is personally responsible for obtaining accommodation and registering in the Swedish population register. More information is available here and here.

What is the salary for PhD students?

The PhD salary is regulated by SKH's doctoral ladder. The starting salary is 29 000 SEK.

What resources do I have as a PhD student?

As a PhD student, you have access to funds for the implementation of the project, provided that funds are available. You budget for these funds in your project budget. You are part of SKH's departments and have access to the university's resources.

How will I know if I have progressed in the admission process?

We will keep all applicants updated via the application system.

When will the interviews take place?

Interviews with shortlisted applicants will take place on 13-17 May 2024.

When will the decision be made?

After the interviews in May 2024, the proposed applicants will be contacted for admission and employment. The final decision on admission and recruitment will be taken in September 2024 at the latest.
