SKH-studenter i praktik på Dramaten

Våra fyra studenter som går sitt sista år i teaterregi gör sin praktik på Dramaten genom att visa upp sina redovisningar för publik på Målarsalen, Dramaten.

De regisserar varsin 30–40 minuter lång föreställning som sätts ihop till en – i ett gemensamt rum.

Föreställningarna spelas under perioden 30 november–3 december 2023.

Becoming a genius

Att vara en regissör. Att vara en konstnär. Att vara kvinna. Att inte kunna vara sig själv. Becoming a genius är ett rörelsebaserat verk som behandlar regissörens eget konstnärskap, kropp och erfarenhet. Verket bygger på bilder, känslor och associationer kopplade till hur det är att tillhöra framtidens generation av regissörer i en begränsande teaterkultur.

About the project

The project “Kamp and also Struggles” came into being through the series of conversations between Mattias Andersson and me about the possibility of increasing the visibility of SKH students before they officially become part of the professional theatre scene of Sweden. The idea behind this collaboration was to offer the soon -to be -emerging artists an insight into a professional theatre context already during their studies, by inviting them to stage a joint production on one of Dramaten´s stages.

Dramaten´s generous invitation was very inspiring for the directing students who traditionally don´t get that kind of invitation during their internship period. They saw it as an opportunity to have their voice heard, but to also test their ability to apply the knowledge they have gained throughout their education in the largest and very unique theatre institution in Sweden.
Mattias and I agreed about the basic prerequisites for this collaboration: one conceptual platform, one room and four 30 minutes long etudes. I moved on by giving my students an open call to pick the subject which they felt concerned them, and that is how this idea was born.

As the process was moving forward, the students felt they were all interested in addressing the subject of self-censorship. I was intrigued with this idea at first, thinking mostly about why they felt this topic was of such relevance to them. I guess I was relaying on their youth and the general idea that being young means wanting to change the world that is “out of joint”. But I realized soon enough that their perception of this subject and the world is indeed very fascinating, sometimes painful and sometimes filled with self-irony and humor, and that it definitely deserves attention.

I have always believed strongly in the idea that the art pedagogy should revolve around the concept of not only educating the students to fit in their respective artistic field but to also influence it by new and fresh ideas and strategies.
I am therefore, more than happy about this collaboration because it offers a platform for dialogue between a National theatre and an artistic school. It will help us get better ideas of who we are and what we stand for in this exchange process, but also what the up-and-coming new theatre forces can contribute with in this dialogue, that I hope has only just started.
