To let things unfold (by catching the center)

To let things unfold (by catching the center) is a Research project by Cecilia Roos and Jan Burkhardt.
Catching dog

Co-researcher is Jan Burkhardt and the project is based on the previous project Gestures of exchange that ended in the fall of 2016. It investigated how dancers exchange methods during an artistic process. This study explores how we can perceive and experience each other's methods through our sensation. We have worked to expand our understanding of what a sensation can do and practiced different ways in which the experience of one's sensation can be used as material in choreographic processes.

Aim and research questions

Participation based on the perceived sensation was the primary research approach. What does it mean for the dancer to work from his/her sensation in a choreographic process? How can a sensation be exchanged between dancers in a creative process? What possibilities can emerge when not working towards an expected result?

Research implementation and anticipated impact

The research was conducted in workshops in Stockholm, Gothenburg, Cologne, Berlin and Björkö/Åland. Methods and other results were published in Nordic Journal of Dance October 2019.

Research funding

Stockholm University of the Arts

Schedule

The project started 2017 and was finalized 2019
