”Darkness as material” by Mia Engberg

Doctor Mia Engberg successfully defended the artistic research project “Darkness as Material” on 24 November, 2023, within the PhD programme Performative and Media-Based Practices. The documented artistic research project (doctoral thesis) can be found in Research Catalogue and DiVA.

The public defence took place on 24 November, 2023 at 13:00 at Stockholm University of the Arts, Valhallavägen 189, Stockholm. The public defence was also live-streamed on SKH’s website.

The doctoral project Darkness as Material examines darkness as material and its relationship to cinematic storytelling. The project is inspired by Marguerite Duras' idea to kill cinema, and it explores film's potential to approach the place she described as the dark room, where we are deaf and blind, and passion is possible.
