”The voice – a touch?” by Lotta Erikson

The project is a study of the human voice’s significance in broadcasting media. Erikson uses a sound-based voice piece for headphones to examine how the human voice is experienced in an artistic documentary work.

What is the human voice? Something unique and individual, yet at the same time something divine and unearthly. What we have seen during the last century is the status of the voice being restored. A re-enchantment of the world. In the technological modern world, dead matter starts to speak. Voice is presence. Nothing else is as closely connected to the soul as the voice. We give the world colour by means of our words – we give it a name and create it. What language and the body have in common is the voice. The voice is touch. Sound waves from one human being to another.
