Oceanic Horror or How to Survive the Night in the Haunted Mansion of Absolute Capitalism

Oceanic Horror or How to Survive the Night in the Haunted Mansion of Absolute Capitalism

This seminar is a part of the SKH's Spring 2024: Wednesday Research Seminar series (WRS).

During the spring of 2024, we are holding weekly interdisciplinary research seminars that are organised and led by professors in the research profile areas. A new theme is discussed each term.

WRS welcomes all SKH teachers, senior researchers, PhDs, MA students, and an invited public, WRS are SKHs primary context for encountering the research happening within and in relation to SKH.

WRS provides a regular time and space for internal and external researchers to come together to share a variety of practices, perspectives and approaches, to identify affinities and differences, to raise common lines of enquiry, and to engage in critical discourse and intersubjective dialogue across an array of themes, subject areas and artistic disciplines.

Embark on a journey of artistic inquiry as we delve into the realms of horror fiction, financialization politics, and the very fabric of our socio-political reality.
Through "Oceanic Horror" Funder invites us into a session of thought-provoking discourse and immersive experiences. The project challenges conventional narratives, offering fresh insights into the intersections of horror fiction and political art practice. Through a captivating blend of video installations, cinematic narration, and transrealist exploration.

What role does horror fiction play in shaping our perceptions of contemporary reality? Can art be a catalyst for counteracting the alienating effects of absolute capitalism?

"Oceanic Horror" is deeply rooted in the concept of financialization, understood as the growing penetration of financial logics into our daily lives and the increasing dominance of financial processes over the outcomes of capital accumulation.
