ZONEN – film screening, seminar and concert
The film is a result of a large artistic project that took its starting point in Andrei Tarkovsky’s film Stalker from 1979, using it as a guide and map for the process, journey, and explorations of the project. In Tarkovsky’s film, three men enter the forbidden Zone in search of a magical room that will fulfil one’s innermost wish.

”I don’t know what happens here when humans are away, but if only people appear here, everything starts moving. Previous traps disappear, new ones emerge. The safe spaces become impassable and the way at one moment is simple and easy, the other – turns to be insuperably complicated. This is the Zone. It may seem capricious. But in fact, at any moment, it is exactly as we devise it … in our consciousness. I will not hide, it has happened that people were forced to return emptyhanded from the halfway. There were also such who ... perished on the very doorstep of the Room. Nevertheless, everything that happens here, depends not on the Zone, but on us.”.
(from Stalker)
Through the work and process of the project – how the filming and editing evolved, the influences from Tarkovsky’s films and writings, the work with the documentary conversations, the temporality and materiality of sound and images – a very special kind of film dramaturgy was developed. In some ways even, “Zonen” is not a film. In fact, it is rather the Zone itself: it reflects the state of the one watching and listening, the state of the consciousness of the travellers in the Zone. We all become travellers in the Zone and the way we move in the Zone are seemingly randomly. Or is the journey just random and meaningless?
Within the frame of the project music has also been created, it appears in the film but it also musical works in itself. Beside songs co-written by Olofsson and Jeppsson, also a suite of electroacoustic music was composed, Zone – music at the threshold. This suite will be presented and performed in Bion 27 November at 19:00.
