Ethiopian dance course
The Ethiopian dance course is held at SKH Brinellvägen 58 for ten Wednesday evenings from September to November 2023. It is free of charge and open to all ages. No prior knowledge is required other than that you like to move.
Bring your friend and a water bottle because we'll be sweating!
Ethiopian dance
Ethiopia consists of many different ethnic groups with their own dances and we will learn the basics from different parts of the country such as Guragigna, Amarigna, Oromigna, Wolitigna, Tigrigna.
Ethiopian dance is rhythmic and we learn to move to different types of music and tempos and to isolate different body parts while moving in joint formations.
Our teacher Biruk Eyayu Manyazewal has danced full-time in the National Theater of Ethiopia for ten years and has toured 17 countries.
The course is organized by Lisa Grenströmer
The Ethiopian dance course is given thanks to Lisa Grenströmer, a student in the Bachelor's program in dance education at SKH, and the scholarship of 5000 SEK awarded to her by the student union SUDPAC.
Motivation for the scholarship is:
This course is a possible space for students and staff at SKH to meet outside of school and in that way create cohesion. It could increase communication between classes, programmes and genres. The event is promising in regard to support and guidance of culture and history. It encourages students as well as outside people to expand and enrich the knowledge. It seems to strive towards the well-being of cultural dance with historical roots.
