The selection process
Step 1. Assessment of eligibility
The assessment of eligibility is divided into two parts:
- Assessment of the general entry requirement, Bachelor's degree and the specific qualification, Bachelor of Fine Arts or equivalent and English 5 or equivalent.
- Assessment of the specific entry requirement, Passed entrance examination, which demonstrates artistic ability in the performing arts.
The qualification test
The qualification test, which demonstrates artistic ability in the performing arts is assessed by an admission group. This test does not require the presence of the applicant. The assessment is based on the material submitted with your application: work samples, individual investigation/question, documentation of previous artistic work and reflection on documented work.
The admission group assesses the level of the applicant´s artistic work by analysing the submitted work samples in the form of for example text, image, link to audio, link to video and evaluates:
-
The level of craftmanship
- The clarity of artistic expression in the work
Based on the individual investigation/question and documentation of previous artistic work, the admissions group assesses the applicant's articulation skills based on:
- the ability to articulate an enquiry/question
- the clarity and relevance of the individual investigation/question in relation to the programme
- contextualisation of the project within the performing arts field
- proposal for documentation of the project
Reflection on documented work is assessed:
- the ability to articulate and summarise one´s process and artistic practice
- the ability to develop reflection
Assessment
The assessment of the qualification test relates to the criteria for those parts of the test. The applicant must pass all sections to pass the qualification test.
The grading scale for the assessments is:
Pass: the candidate demonstrates the required competences
Fail: the applicant does not demonstrate the required competences
Step 2. Selection based on submitted material
The admissions group makes an initial selection based on the material submitted. The successful candidates are invited to an interview.
Step 3. Interview
This part of the admission process consists of an interview with the admission group. The applicant will have the opportunity to describe their practice and project in more detail. The admission group will focus on the applicant's conceptual, aesthetic and theoretical interests, as well as expectations and visions for two years of master’s studies. Assessment is made based on the interview as well as the submitted material.
Selection and criteria
If there are more eligible applicants than places on a programme, a selection is made. Applicants are selected on artistic grounds by an admissions group. The selection is made in a first stage through an overall assessment of the application documents received, followed by interviews.
The criteria for selection are:
- the applicant's ability to solve given tasks, problems or issues
- the applicant's creative ability
- the applicant's ability to reflect on their own and others' artistic expression.
Admissions group
The assessment of the qualification test and selection is done by an admissions group with expertise relevant to the programme. The admissions group mainly consists of members working at Stockholm University of the Arts. A student can also participate in the admission process but does not make any decisions.
