Registration and re-registration
If you have a specific part unfinished from a previous course, you do not need to re-register. Just make sure you talk to your teacher so that you can take part in that specific task. This can for example be an exam during a course. If you on the other hand need to be a part of the course again for longer and for example, take part in seminars or practical practices, you have to re-register for the course. A re-registration is also needed if you plan to apply for student founding for the university points you are missing. Remember that re-registration is only possible in agreement with the course coordinating teacher and during an agreed upon timeframe.
Contact the course coordinating teacher and the contact person from the Educational administration department at your department.
You do not need to re-register if you:
- Will only take part in an examination and do not need to be a part of lectures, seminars or practices. If you need to hand in a paper, contact the course coordinating teacher to agree upon the terms for that.
To be able to re-register you need to:
- Previously been registered at the course.
- The previous course needs to have the same course number as the course you were previously registered on.
You should re-register if you:
- Are planning on taking part in lectures, seminars or practices.
Approved leave from studies
Approved leave from studies means that you can temporarily pause your studies. Non-completion of studies entails permanently leaving your studies.
Approved leave from studies is regulated in Sweden’s Higher Education Ordinance (1993:100) and the Swedish Council for Higher Education’s regulations (links in Swedish; UHRFS 2013:3, fundamental regulations and UHRFS 2016:1, amended regulations).
If there are special reasons, a higher education institution may, in individual cases, decide that a person who has started first-cycle or second-cycle courses and study programs at the institution may continue his/her studies after approved leave. Special reasons to allow continuing of studies can be social, medical or other special circumstances such as, for example, childcare, military or civilian service, initial military training as per the Swedish ordinance thereon (link in Swedish, 2015:613) or student union assignments. Special reasons may also be temporary probationary appointment under § 12 of the act (link in Swedish, 2012:332) on certain Swedish Armed Forces’ appointments or service in the Swedish Armed Forces for those appointed, under this act, as temporary squad leaders, soldiers or sailors.
If you are a student at a program, you may request approved leave from your studies with guaranteed admission. This means that you retain your place and may resume your studies at a later time.
How to apply
You apply for approved leave from studies by completing and submitting the Application for approved leave from studies.pdf form.
In the application, you must state which special reasons prevent you from continuing our studies. These may be social or medical reasons, for example, childcare, military or civilian service or student union assignments.
You shall append a letter giving reasons for your approved leave from studies and any certificates, etc. corroborating these (e.g. doctor’s certificates, child’s extract from the population register, decision on compulsory service or statement from an employer).
The approved leave application is to be emailed to registrator@uniarts.se or posted to:
Stockholm University of the Arts
Box 24045
SE-104 50 Stockholm
If your application contains sensitive personal details (e.g. doctor’s certificates), we recommend that the application is sent by post rather than email.
Decision
When the application has been processed, the decision is emailed to the you. When granted, approved leave from studies with guaranteed admission always applies for a stated time. You should save the notice setting out what applies to you as regards the latest date for resuming your studies and how to resume them.
Rejection of approved leave from studies application can be appealed. The decision contains appeal instructions. An appeal must be made within three weeks of you learning of the decision.
If you are receiving student finance from CSN, you should find out how pausing your studies affects said finance.
Non-completion of studies
You should give notification of non-completion if you do not intend to resume your studies. If, instead, you wish to temporarily pause your studies, you should apply for approved leave from studies. If you are receiving student finance from CSN, you should find out how pausing or not completing your studies affects said finance.
If you have decided not to complete your studies on courses and study programs that you have already started, you can give notification of non-completion. You may be able to come back to the courses and study programs at a later date, but only if places are available. If you plan to come back to the courses and study programs, you should first apply for approved leave from studies.
How to give notification
Notification of non-completion of a course is given via the Notification of non-completion of studies.pdf form.
Notification of non-completion is to be emailed to registrator@uniarts.se or posted to:
Stockholm University of the Arts
Box 24045
SE-104 50 Stockholm
Notice
Notice that your notification has been received is sent to you by email when a decision has been reached. Non-completion will be documented in the Ladok study documentation system.
If you give notification of non-completion in the first three weeks, you are de-registered from the courses and study programs and may re-apply. If you give notification of non-completion after three weeks from commencement of the studies, you can be re-registered on the courses and study programs. Note that re-registration is only possible if places are available.
