Film and media make up a significant part of people’s everyday life and influence societal development through a unique ability to reach out and communicate to a wide audience. To tell in film and media offers opportunities to operate in a wide range of expressions from the commercial to the artistic, from documentary to fiction. Digital development has made the technology to produce film and media available to many. There are also more and more platforms for film and media: cinema, television, internet, radio, art galleries and public spaces. It is a complex narrative form in which many different artistic expressions such as sounds, images, words, scenery, acting and music together form an experience. Film and media productions are often created in collaboration between artists with their own artistic voices and different crafts and artistic expressions.
The Bachelor's Programme in Film and Media is a first cycle programme for work in film, television and radio and a place for you to begin the development of an artistic expression within the mediated area.
The Bachelor's Programme in Film and Media specialising in Montage – Sound Design and Film Editing
The Bachelor's Programme in Film and Media consists of theory, tool and lab courses. Some courses are common to all five specialisations, others are specialisation-specific. The programme's elective courses give you space to individually shape your education. What recurs throughout the programme is that you as a student seek out your own tone and your own expression.
As a student in the specialisation Image – Cinematography, Animation and Production Design, you dedicate yourself to basic skills so as to be able to work with other teams’ photos, film, news stories for television and short films, work as a camera operator, work in the design department for film/television, work on digital design, work in an animation studio or complete smaller animation projects.
In the courses specific to the specialisation, you intensify your knowledge during the course of the programme in dramaturgy, sound storytelling, sound recording, sound editing, sound design and film editing for different types of film and media. For example, you work on fiction, documentary, art film and installation art for different platforms, in different formats and lengths. You will learn how to manage different digital audio and video processing programmes. You will work with both set material and materials produced in the lab courses. In the programme, you will practice working both within a clear framework and more freely. Through analysis, you develop your ability to reflect on your own and others' work. A special focus is placed on ethical aspects of sound design and film editing in relation to mediated storytelling. During the two last years, you specialise in either film editing or film sound design.
If you wish to specialise even more, deepen your artistic expression, and prepare to do research, after completing the bachelor's degree specialising in Montage – Sound Design and Film Editing you can apply for the master specialisations Film Editing, Film Sound Design, Dokumentary processes or The Art of Impact.
